The last few days of December

We live in the US, about 15 miles from the Mexico border. But sometimes I wonder which side of the border I'm really on. Here's a sign on the US side. This is at a checkpoint heading north out of the Rio Grande Valley. It is in the US and they stop every car and check for drugs and illegal aliens.
These are Marc's boys at our house.

Here are Kent, Maria, Josh and Jeremy Velazquez playing Rook at our house.

Being close to the border like that, do you hear a lot of Tex-Mex? Otherwise known as "Spanglish," though I think it has its own character.

Thanks for sharing the pics. We're still here in Jackson, WY and are amazed at how many Hispanic people work out here. Many hardly understand or speak English. We're really curious why so many are here...this being a very expensive place to live and all...

I remember those days, living in Texas and feeling like you were south of the border. It's amazing though, living in Nebraska we have lots of Hispanics here also, theres a meat-packing plant 45 miles away that many work at.

Interesting pictures.. reminds me of my mission trip to L.A.B.I. back in the early 90s when we crossed the border. I can see how it could get very confusing! Especially with the way my brain works sometimes!

Glad you had a great time with Maria! btw, do their Rook games last as late as ours? Christmas day, ours lasted until 2:30 the next morning...glad I was off that day! It's just so fun to be together that we have trouble tearing ourselves away :)
Thanks for sharing your pics. Oh...and I got to see Maria today! Over at GBS...even gave her a hug. That's one sweet gal you've got. 'Course, Kent is pretty special too!
