Cold mashed potatoes and tamales, served at a youth retreat.
This is meat being cooked on a spit, the chef is shaving it off, then it's put on a tortilla and called "Tacos al Pastor."
These are gorditas, being fried in a vat of oil. The hand on the right belongs to a lady patting out tortillas. The dough for the tortillas (called masa) is in the bucket.
These are chiles rellenos, made by Melodie Sankey. They are green peppers, stuffed with cheese, coated with batter and fried - Delicious!
Clockwise: Taco, refried beans, rice, enchilada and guacamole.
A fruit market stand.
Clockwise: Grilled veggies, guacamole, enchilada, taco, refried beans and steak in the middle.

oh, yum! Everything looks so good, can you box some of that up and ship it to me?! I miss the food down there so bad, have ya'll gotten accustomed to it yet?
My husband saw all the food pics and he is feeling led to minister in Mexico. :) Did you all enjoy Mexican food before you moved to South Texas?
You've made me hungry -- and I just finished Sunday dinner! The tamales look scrumptious.
Enjoyed hearing you on the phone over the church PA this morning, Beth. Thanks for starting the conversation in Spanish. It made my day, and your dad didn't mind, either.
It was really fun to catch up on your blog! :>)
We saw Maria at YC - Darrell Lee just hugged her and was so content to sit with her! She seemed to be doing well, but I know these aren't easy days for her (or you). . . I heard that Pres. Avery had her stand up in chapel and asked her if she was behind in any school work, or had skipped class, etc., making an example. I was very proud that she is being so diligent. You can be so proud of both your kids.
Maybe I should have just e-mailed you! :>) This is one hefty comment!
Take care!
Lizzy

Wow .. it all looks great!! Makes me hungry and it's only breakfast time!
I would love some new Mexican recipes(My family loves Mexican...)! You should put out a newsletter with recipes in your spare time! ha! It all looks delicious...Is authentic Mexican food alot different than American-Mexican food? Just curious! I enjoy your blog! God bless you all!
Hmmmmm...would love one of those tamales about now (could do away with the cold mashed taters) and some black beans and rice to go with them! Oh, and platano...
The food looks delicious! You have good taste!
Not only does it look good, ya'll - it tastes that way, too!
Melodie
Beth, wish I could say that the food looks delicious, I'm sure it is good, it's just that baby and I are VERY nauseated at this moment, so we can't handle the sight of hardly any food. =) I'm sure that all of it is yummy food though!
Glad that you and Steve have been there for Marc and Melodie. I'm sure it has been fun having them around, though it would have been better without these scary circumstances with Logan's eye!
Love, Heather =)
I am not kidding you.. that is making me very tempted to just hop over to Casa Brava for supper tonight although I am sure the food in the pictures is much better. Melodie's Chile`s look so yummy!
So sad that I won't see you at Christmas!

Am enjoying your pictures - the people, the culture, the food - thanks so much for sharing!! Trust you all are doing well! Thanks for your kind comment on our blog. Hope you have a wonderful day!
OK, someone commented about the fruit on my blog..... so, I like Mexican food and all but it sure would be nice to get an update on the Stetler's. I have to go to Marc and Melodie's blog to see pictures of you and your family. Steve looks so handsome in that picture of him and Logan!!
You sure know how to make a person hungry.
