We Ate ...

While Mom and Dad were here we went several places to eat.

One was Pollo Loco (which literally means "crazy chicken")! :-) They serve chicken, beans, rice, tortillas, cole slaw, french fries and chips and salsa. So, so good!

We also ate at the Penas. Great food and wonderful people!

The Correas served us a delicious meal, as well.

And, we ate with the campmeeting crowd.

San Rafael

A couple weeks ago, Dad and Steve made the 1-hour trip through the mountains to the little village of San Rafael.

They visited with Pastor Alejandro and his wife at their little restaurant. She is a fantastic cook!

They visited the Clara Avery Memorial Chapel.

They also stopped by Daniel Pena's mechanic shop and general store.

Saturday Nights in Saltillo

Every Saturday night Jose and Anna Correa have charge of youth service for the Saltillo Bible Methodist Church. We asked them if they would come over to our house sometime. Here are some pictures of what we did last night.

Here's the whole crew, minus Steve who was taking the picture. They are all so nice and so much fun!

They enjoyed getting on our computers and checking their email.

Some of them played XBox in Kent's room.

Daisy looks at pictures in Maria's room. We sure miss having Maria here with us.

Noemi and Elisa looking at our photo albums.

Kent playing one of the games.

Some of the kids getting ready for another game we played.

Jenny and Karen.

Cesia trying to get cottonballs into the bowl that Noemi is holding on her head.

Enjoying a laugh while looking at our photo albums.

Eating a snack in our carport.

Trying to get clothespins into our water jugs.

Cynthia playing the game.

I always get really scared when people come to our house. So, I had worked myself up into quite a state by Saturday evening. Kent was also a little anxious, and when the carloads began to arrive he started quoting Scripture under his breath, "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want...Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou are with me." It was hilarious!

Our New Addition

Almost everyone here in Mexico has a dog as an added measure of security. Kent has been wanting a dog for a long time as well. So we have added a yellow lab to our household. We really are enjoying him, except when he cries for his mom at unearthly hours! :-)

His first bath.

Kent holding the dog. Sorry I keep calling him "the dog," he doesn't have a name yet.

He is so cute!

While we were living in Bedford we had black and chocolate labs. This is our first yellow lab. I think it will be a while before he scares off any bad guys! :-)

Mom and Dad in Saltillo

We drove part way up one of the mountains behind our house to look over the city of Saltillo.

This is part of the city with other mountains in the background.

Here we are in another section of the city at an overlook called "El Mirador."

Back-2-School Project

While we were at Pell City Bible Methodist Camp, a dear elderly friend gave us a donation of $20 to use for a special project or need in Mexico. We were able to take advantage of Walmart's Back-to-School Prices and purchase these supplies for Bible Methodist children in Mexico.

Supplies for the older students.

In a basket, ready for delivery.

Supplies for the younger children.

Dad Preaching in Saltillo

The Saltillo Bible Methodist Church asked Dad (Leonard Sankey) to be the evangelist for their annual camp. We are so glad he (and Mom) could come - I'll post some pictures of that later.

A view of the congregation.

Dad preaching.

Visiting after church with Pastor Dolores and others.

Prayer around the altar.

The sermons were excellent and the Lord met with us. God is good.

Saying Goodbye

Maria spent the summer with us here in Mexico. It was so nice for the 4 of us to be together as a family again. While she was here she made some special friendships with the young people in Saltillo. Below are some pictures of her last night at church.

Meli, Noemi, Kent, Maria, Carla and Cesia.

Carla, Maria, Jose Luis, and Meli.

Teresa and her friend with Maria.

Alonso and Maria.

Now she is on her way back to God's Bible School in Cincinnati to continue her college education. We are sad to be without her, but are happy she is seeking God's will in her life.

Alabama Youth Camp

Our kids were so happy to be able to attend Alabama Bible Methodist Youth Camp this year. A special "Thank-you" to the Burlington Bible Methodist Church for allowing Kent and Maria to ride with you to youth camp.

VBS in Saltillo

Last week we had Vacation Bible School at the Saltillo Bible Methodist Church. Steve and I had a great time observing and helping in our first VBS in Mexico.
